Loki – Season 1

What do you do when a fan favorite dies in a big movie? Invent a new time-travel storyline! That’s probably what Marvel and Disney thought with fan-favorite Loki. In Loki Season 1, we follow Thor’s brother on a new adventure in the MCU timeline. After a slow start, Loki gains momentum! A successful third series from Marvel on Disney+.

Loki Season 1 takes place after, or actually during, the first Avengers movie from 2012. When Loki steals the Tesseract after being captured, he is taken by the TVA. That event was not supposed to happen in the current timeline. The TVA plays the role of guardians of the sacred timeline.

Once at the TVA, Loki meets agent Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, who tells him about other Loki variants. With infinitely many universes, each with their own version of the God of Mischief, there are quite a few Loki variants deviating from their timeline. An ideal scenario for a season full of time travel and new worlds!

World full of Loki’s

The first episodes have to explain a lot. So, the series doesn’t pick up speed quickly. But when it does, you immediately get caught up in the action!

Spoiler Alert. In the fifth episode, all Loki variants are introduced. Particularly, the ‘original Loki’ played by Richard E. Grant is a nice addition. But also, the other Lokis and the new world they find themselves in make this episode an incredibly good lead-up to the finale.

Tom Hiddleston proves once again that he can play a good Loki in this series. But he’s not the only one who can. Sophia Di Martino, as Sylvie, seizes her moment and becomes an unexpected new Loki. The chemistry between the two is strong. Which is strange because they are variants of each other. The ultimate narcissism of Loki: falling in love with yourself. This ‘Lokincest’ storyline is peculiar but fits well within the series.

Unfortunately, there are only 6 episodes in Loki Season 1. Especially after the story gains momentum, you hope to see much more. But good news: Loki Season 2 is on the way! That couldn’t have been otherwise after such an open ending. Many loose ends are tied up, but many new ones also opened. Just like the branches on the TVA timeline itself.

Third Marvel series on Disney+

Marvel and Disney are quickly building on the fourth phase in the MCU. After WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki follows as the third Marvel series on Disney+. All three follow a very different story and have a very different execution. Loki is probably the series that comes closest to the well-known Marvel movies for Marvel fans. Loki Season 1 particularly resembles the Thor films, in which Loki introduces himself. In addition to these three Marvel series on Disney+, Black Widow is now also in theaters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from done with new content. And they will continue with it for many years to come!
