A Quiet Place Part 2

After the successful first film in 2018, we now have a second installment of A Quiet Place. Writer and director John Krasinski has crafted a sequel to the apocalyptic world where silence is key, and he has done it quite well—very well, in fact. Fans of the first part will also embrace A Quiet Place Part 2.

In this post-apocalyptic world, making any noise attracts monstrous creatures that kill everything and everyone in their path. In the first film, the Abbott family lost a son and father, Lee, to these creatures. Now, the mother (Emily Blunt), daughter (Millicent Simmonds), son (Noah Jupe), and the newborn baby must navigate and find refuge. The newborn baby is a ticking time bomb when it comes to making noise, making safety elusive.

The sequel builds upon a solution discovered in the first film: the monsters are vulnerable to a loud interference, and the daughter’s hearing aid serves this purpose perfectly. The current solution allows them to temporarily disable and shoot a looming monster. However, it’s not effective on a large scale, at least not yet. At a subsequent station, the Abbott family picks up a radio signal, sparking the idea of a disruptive broadcast. Achieving this goal requires them to brave the outdoors for a challenging two-day journey, with monsters lurking everywhere.

Father Figure

A Quiet Place Part II introduces new characters, beginning with an opening scene that depicts the origins of the catastrophe, giving John Krasinski a brief opportunity to reprise his role. Cillian Murphy also makes his first appearance as Emmett. With the family’s father deceased, finding Emmett becomes crucial for the Abbott family. The question arises: will Emmett assume the role of the father figure?

In the first film, there were hints, but in the second part, the daughter seems to adopt the father’s role within the family. Determined, responsible, and seeking solutions, she mirrors her father’s demeanor. However, there’s a downside—she is deaf. This means she can be quiet but is also oblivious to any unintentional noise she might make, making it perilous for her to venture out alone. Yet, this is exactly what happens in the sequel.

More Thriller Than Horror

For those worried that A Quiet Place Part II might be too much horror, fear not. Apart from a few predictable jump scares, the film keeps you on the edge of your seat as more of a suspenseful thriller than fitting strictly into the horror genre.

The married couple, John Krasinski and team, have once again succeeded in creating a compelling thriller with an original plot. Unlike other films, like Awake, which struggled to translate an original plot into a good movie. If rumors are to be believed, this might not be the end for the Abbott family. A Quiet Place Part 3 is reportedly in the works, awaiting official confirmation.

A commendable aspect of A Quiet Place is the decision not to skip theaters. Originally slated for March 2020, the film’s release was delayed to June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike other movies, John Krasinski patiently waited until cinemas worldwide were mostly open again. A wise choice! A Quiet Place Part 2 truly shines on the big screen, and despite being centered around silence, the cinema speakers contribute to the film’s success. It’s highly recommended to experience this in theaters!
