Gentleman thief Assane Diop is back in Lupin Part 3. The successful French Netflix Original has again outdone itself. With the charismatic Omar Sy in the lead, the third installment of Lupin is a thrilling experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first to the last minute. The family Pellegrini was tricked by Diop at the end of Lupin Part 2. He went into hiding after revealing himself as the wanted thief. However, he finds out his family cannot live their lives due to the media harrassing them. Time for Assane Diop to come out of hiding.
A big robbery during which he not only captures the valuable black pearl, he also fakes his death. An ultimate attempt to live the rest of his life under the radar. However, as befits a series of Lupin this does not happen without a fight. His mother, Mariama, returns from Senegal, but is immediately in danger. Does Diop get her out of trouble in time?
On the edge of your seat
As seen before, main character Diop takes his tricks from gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. These incredible fictional tricks turn out to work in Diop’s world as well. The tension is present from the very first second. Is the likeable thief going to succeed again?
Omar Sy proves ones again that his charisma makes Lupin. Without him in the lead, Lupin would have been a very different show. But the Frenchman is not the only cast member exceeding expectations in part 3. When looking back in Diop’s past, the younger cast (that is extraordinarily well cast) shows their potential. More than earlier, the flashbacks make this season. The storyline is exciting, new and ties a lot of answers to questions.
Lupin Part 3 ending explained – Spoiler’s ahead!
Nevertheless, the ending might need some more explanation. Where part 1 and part 2 completely focused on Diop’s relationship with the family Pellegrini, part 3 goes beyond that. His activities do bring Diop to prison after he turns himself in. Once there, he gets an envelope from his cell neighbour. Inside is a photograph of a young Diop holding one of his Lupin books.
The camera zooming out to the cell next to him reveals the sender of the envelope: Hubert Pellegrini. Does the head of the family know about Diop’s tricks and his relation with Lupin? Being left with this huge cliffhanger, it seems likely Lupin Part 4 is upon us. However, it has not been formerly announced yet. Will we see a rematch between Assane Diop and Hubert Pellegrini in the fourth installment?
